Connect your own AI assistant to Moodle and Canvas

Many teachers already draft with Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot — then spend an evening copying the results into the LMS. Connect the assistant your institution already licenses to EduGears AI, and the quizzes, modules and lesson pages it writes land in your course library, ready for your review.

What connecting your assistant means

A standard link between the chat assistant you already use and the course tool you teach with.

A connector, not another chatbot

Claude, ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot can each be extended with connectors — a standard way (the Model Context Protocol, MCP) for a chat assistant to use an outside tool. EduGears AI is now such a tool. Once you connect it, your assistant can see which of your courses it may work in, what it can create, and the exact formats EduGears AI accepts.

Your assistant writes, EduGears AI delivers

The writing happens in the assistant your institution already pays for. EduGears AI does what a chat window cannot: it stores the material in the right structure, renders the questions properly — mathematics included — delivers them to learners, and sends grades back to the Moodle or Canvas gradebook when you publish a quiz.

Example

From one request to a quiz in your library

Teacher, in their own assistant

Create a 10-question quiz on photosynthesis for my Biology course.

Assistant, using EduGears AI

Done. “Photosynthesis check” is in your EduGears AI library: 10 questions mixing multiple choice, true/false, short answer and essay, with answer keys and explanations. Add it to your Biology course with the picker you already use whenever you are ready.

Not visible to students yet

The assistant confirms what it created and where it landed. Nothing reaches students until you place it in your course yourself.

What you can build from a chat

Ask in plain words. Your assistant creates real course material, not text to copy and paste.

Graded quizzes

Multiple choice, true/false, short answer and essay questions, with answer keys and explanations — saved to your EduGears AI library for Moodle or Canvas, with grades going back to the gradebook once you publish.

Modules with lesson pages

“Build a module on tide calculations with three lessons” gives you a module with lesson pages, written by your assistant and structured by EduGears AI.

Write now, place it later

Your assistant can read your course list and recent work, so follow-up requests land in the right place. Material can also be created before you open the course: it waits in your library until you add it from Moodle or Canvas.

The entire course, from one conversation

From modules with lesson pages to full quizzes with answer keys — your assistant can build everything your course needs, straight into your library. Place each piece in Moodle or Canvas with the picker you already use.

Set up in about two minutes

Teachers do it themselves — there is nothing for IT to install and no API keys to request.

  1. 1

    Add the connector

In your assistant, add a custom connector (some assistants call it an app or an MCP server) and paste your EduGears AI server address. It is shown, with a copy button, in Course Settings in Moodle or Canvas.

  2. 2

    Pair with a one-time code

Your assistant opens the EduGears AI sign-in page. Enter the one-time pairing code from Course Settings and approve the connection.

  3. 3

    Ask for content

Request a quiz or a module in plain words. Your assistant confirms what it created and where it landed.

Built so you stay in charge

The connection is deliberately narrow: course material you author, and nothing else.

Nothing reaches students without you

Everything your assistant creates arrives as draft material in your EduGears AI library. It reaches a course only when you place it there yourself. Publishing is the review step, and it stays yours.

No student work, grades or gradebooks

Your assistant can read and create course material you author. Student submissions, grades and gradebooks are not part of the connection, and the consent screen says so before you approve it.

Personal, and easy to switch off

Each teacher approves their own connection and can disconnect it at any moment; administrators can see and disconnect every connected assistant for their organization. Disconnecting stops the assistant immediately — the content it already created stays yours.

Runs on the AI you already license

No new AI contract: the writing happens inside your institution's own Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot, under the agreement it already has. EduGears AI receives the finished material, not your conversation.

Available on request while it rolls out

The connector is switched on per organization while we onboard the first institutions. If you want it for your Moodle or Canvas, get in touch and we will enable it for your account.

Frequently asked questions

Which assistants work with it?

Any assistant that supports custom connectors over the Model Context Protocol. Today that includes Claude (paid plans), ChatGPT (plans with connector support) and Microsoft Copilot Studio agents. The connector is the same standard in each; only the place where you add it differs.

Does my institution need new AI contracts for this?

No. The writing happens inside the assistant your institution already licenses, under the agreement it already has. EduGears AI receives the finished material — not your conversation.

Can the assistant see my students' work or grades?

No. The connection covers course material you author: reading your course list and content, and creating quizzes, modules and lesson pages. Student submissions, grades and gradebooks are not part of it, and the consent screen states that before you connect.

Will anything appear to students automatically?

No. What your assistant creates sits in your EduGears AI library until you place it in a Moodle or Canvas course yourself, with the same picker you already use.

What happens if I disconnect?

The assistant loses access immediately. Everything it already created stays in your library, exactly like content you made by hand.

Is this the same as bring-your-own-key?

They are complementary. Bring-your-own-key runs EduGears AI's own in-app tools on your institution's AI provider agreement. The connector is the other direction: your chat assistant drives, and EduGears AI stores and delivers what it writes.

How do we get it?

The connector is rolling out now and is switched on per organization. Contact us and we will enable it for your account.
