AI-fy Your LMS in Under 3 Minutes: Moodle, Canvas and More

The test of a good AI tool in education is simple: it doesn't take the teaching away from the teacher. It takes the tedious part.
EduGears AI was built on that one conviction — and it is now a Moodle Certified Integration, with its features and LTI 1.3 integration reviewed and verified by Moodle.
It brings 26 AI tools into the LMS you already run — Moodle, Canvas, Blackboard or Brightspace — over LTI 1.3 Advantage. There is no migration, no new platform for staff to learn, and nothing extra for students to log into.
What is EduGears AI?
EduGears AI turns a syllabus, a PDF or a folder of existing materials into a complete, ready-to-teach course module inside the educator's own course — in minutes, without ever leaving the LMS you already run: Moodle, Canvas, Blackboard or Brightspace. And it doesn't stop at authoring: the same integration carries the course through assessment and grading, puts an AI Tutor and AI Assistant in every lesson for students, and closes with analytics that show what actually worked.
It connects over LTI 1.3 Advantage — any LMS that speaks the standard — so there is no migration and no new platform. Site-level setup takes about three minutes. No plugin is required in any LMS; on Moodle, an optional plugin, local_edugears, makes registration one click and works behind firewalls. Every one of the 26 tools is available on the free tier.
How it works
Three steps:
- Connect. The LMS administrator registers EduGears AI once, site-wide, using LTI 1.3 dynamic registration — on Moodle an optional plugin,
local_edugears, makes it one click. About three minutes. - Create. A teacher adds EduGears AI to any course through the LMS's standard external-tool and deep-linking flow, points it at a syllabus, a PDF or existing materials, and gets back a structured module — lessons, quizzes, practice sets, projects. Anything can be refined with a plain-language instruction.
- Teach. Students launch the activity from inside your course with the identity they already have in the LMS — no extra login. The AI Tutor answers from the lesson content. Scores flow back to the LMS gradebook through LTI Assignment and Grade Services once the instructor approves them.
One course, start to finish
Most AI tools do one thing. EduGears AI follows the course through the whole term.
Authoring
Start from what you already have — import a SCORM package, a Moodle course backup (.mbz) or a Canvas course — or start from a syllabus. AI Course Build and the Multi-Module Builder turn a syllabus into a sequence of modules; the AI Lesson Planner, Slides Generator, Study Guide Generator, Worksheet Generator and Page Generator fill them out; Enhance with AI improves any piece on instruction; the Module Player delivers the result as a guided learning path. Throughout, Curriculum Intelligence indexes the institution's own curriculum so the generated content is grounded in it — your curriculum, not the internet's.
Assessment
Quizzes, the AI Question Generator, Question Banks and Practice Sets cover the routine. A Diagnostic Pre-Check gives learners a start-here quiz that feeds the analytics rather than the grade. Capstone Projects and Project Work handle authentic, file-based assessment against the instructor's rubric, and Reflections add ungraded metacognitive prompts with a supportive AI note back to the student.
Grading
AI Grading marks written, short-answer and handwritten work — handwriting in more than ten languages — against rubrics the instructor wrote. No score reaches the gradebook until the instructor approves it. The human stays in the loop by design, not as an afterthought.
AI Tutor and AI Assistant
Every lesson comes with an AI Tutor that answers students' questions from the actual lesson content — the teacher's material, not the open internet — and keeps a per-lesson conversation thread so a learner can pick up where they left off. The AI Assistant sits on every resource for the same grounded help on a page, a document or a slide deck. Neither will ever surface quiz or answer-key material, so they are safe to leave switched on during assessment. Students get help at 11pm without the teacher being awake for it; the teacher gets a student who arrives at class with better questions.
Analytics
A lesson-by-lesson engagement funnel shows where learners stall. Quiz item analysis surfaces the most common wrong answers, so the next lesson can target the real misconception. Grading reports and AI-usage reports close the loop for instructors and administrators.
And out again
Export to SCORM or Common Cartridge at any time. Content built with EduGears AI is portable — that is the point of building on open standards.
Four design principles
- Open standards, no lock-in. LTI 1.3 Advantage in; SCORM and Common Cartridge out. Grades, roles and enrolments stay in your LMS.
- Your curriculum, not the internet's. Generation and tutoring are grounded in the institution's own materials.
- Human in the loop. The educator creates, the educator approves, the AI does the tedious part.
- Your data, your provider. Each institution's data is kept separate and customer content is never used to train models. Google Gemini is the default; institutions can bring their own API key for OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini, DeepSeek or Sarvam.
A simple, predictable model
Free to start, with 200 AI credits and no feature held back. Paid plans run from $27.99 to $179.99 per month with AI included — 1,000 credits per educator per month, pooled across the team, and learners always free. On paid plans there is no separate AI bill to budget for. Institutions that prefer their own AI account can bring their own key for unlimited use.
Already in classrooms
EduGears AI is used by universities, schools and training providers running Moodle in 20 countries across Europe, Asia, Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean and North America — almost entirely self-serve, with no paid marketing. It was used at MoodleMoot Ukraine 2026, where attendees were offered free credits. One university college in Asia found EduGears AI on its own, registered, launched it inside its Moodle and generated a complete AI lesson set within 90 minutes — unassisted.
Everything ships in up to 16 languages.
Where it came from
"During COVID my son was in 5th grade and kept asking me for more maths practice questions, and I could not find good free ones anywhere — so I wrote a generator for him. When generative AI arrived I went all in on one idea: give this to the teacher, not to the child. Everything in EduGears AI still starts from that — the educator creates, the educator approves, and the AI does the tedious part." — Sri Vanukuri, Founder & CEO, EduGears AI
EduGears AI is a Silicon Valley company and a Moodle Certified Integration Partner. Alongside the Moodle integration it builds EduGears AI Studio, for course creators and publishers, and the EduGears AI LMS — all on the same AI engine.

Get started freeFrequently asked questions
Which LMS does it work with?
Any LMS that supports LTI 1.3 Advantage — Moodle, Canvas, Blackboard and Brightspace among them. The tools, the AI Tutor and the grade passback are the same everywhere; only the administrator's registration screen differs. EduGears AI is a Moodle Certified Integration, and that certification covers the Moodle integration specifically.
Do I need to install a plugin?
No — not in any LMS. EduGears AI connects over standard LTI 1.3 Advantage, and the LMS administrator registers it once, site-wide, in about three minutes. On Moodle there is an optional plugin, local_edugears, that makes registration one click and works behind firewalls.
What does the Moodle certification cover?
EduGears AI is a Moodle Certified Integration: its features and its LTI 1.3 integration were reviewed and verified by Moodle, and the listing can be checked on moodle.com. It is a review of the integration and what it does, not a security or privacy audit.
Is there a free tier, and what is held back?
Nothing is held back. The free tier includes every one of the 26 AI tools and 200 AI credits. Paid plans run from $27.99 to $179.99 per month with AI included — 1,000 credits per educator per month, pooled across the team — and learners are always free on every plan.
Is the content portable if we stop using EduGears AI?
Yes. You can import SCORM packages, Moodle course backups (.mbz) and Canvas courses in, and export to SCORM or Common Cartridge at any time. Grades, roles and enrolments stay in your own LMS throughout.
